The online workshop on the digitization of road construction processes, held on October 13, 2020, together with the Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering (CBI), was a complete success!
40 participants from the fields of construction industry and mechanical engineering discussed Microsoft teams in an interdisciplinary exchange about chances, challenges, possible solutions and, derived from this, potential fields of action.

After keynote speeches by Topcon Deutschland Positioning and Eurovia, the two centers and the institutes presented their possible input, and then discussed and developed the topic together on an interactive whiteboard.

Today, RWTH Aachen University officially handed over a 10,000 square meter area to the Center Construction Robotics (CCR) in the Construction Cluster for its reference construction site. The reference construction site will serve as a real laboratory and will initially be temporarily located on the West Campus as a pilot project. Here, new construction processes, construction products, networked machines, the use of robots, software solutions as well as teaching, work and communication concepts will be tested under real construction site conditions. The Center for Mobile Machinery is also involved in the project and is pleased that, in addition to the FutureSite on the grounds of the Aldenhoven Testing Center, there will now be another reference construction site in Aachen where a wide variety of questions relating to mobile machinerycan be investigated.

The 7th CMM-Workshop took place in the middle of November. Experts from business and academia discussed the following three topics:

• Overcoming speed limits – Potential and challenges of electric high-speed drives
• Virtual development and validation platforms for mobile machinery
• Predictive Safety – security systems for autonomous construction sites
